Filling A Need, Right Next Door.

UPDATE: 08/24/26

With the soon to be open daycare we have started for the benefit of our team, we are looking to add another person for the childcare team.

We're looking for a dependable, attentive team member to help supervise and support children in a safe, engaging environment.

The ideal candidate should be patient, punctual, able to follow routines while encouraging positive behavior and age-appropriate activities.

Responsibilities may include supervising play, assisting with meals/snacks, helping with light cleaning related to childcare, and communicating updates to parents/guardians. If you, or someone you know has experience working with children and have genuine interest in their well-being and development, we would love to hear from you.

Ask most industries about family-friendly benefits and you'll get glossy handbooks, flexible Fridays, maybe a nursing room. Ask construction, and mostly you get silence.

Surveys on industry-specific childcare needs consistently find that construction and manufacturing workers want formal, center-based care more than almost any other trade and have the least access to it.

Part of that comes down to hours. Daycare runs on a schedule built for a 9-to-5. Construction doesn't. Early starts, weather delays, seasonal swings, none of it lines up with a typical drop-off window.

Childcare costs are making things worse. They've climbed so high that more families cite cost as the reason they're stopping at one child or not having any. For many, the monthly bill now feels like a second rent payment.

So the workforce most likely to want childcare is also one of the least served by the industry built around it.

Sometime in the last couple of years, an idea came to us.

We knew childcare had become a real problem across the country, and our own team wasn't excluded from that.

What could we do about it?

There's a stone building next to our site contracting office in Honey Brook. Original bones, built sometime in the 1850s, and part of the property for years now. It's sat through a few different plans over time; at one point there was talk of turning it into office space, but nothing ever really fit.

Starting our own daycare, for our own people in the field, made sense. So we got to work.

Stoltzufs Enterprises, Ltd. took on the renovation, turning the first floor into the daycare. Old farmhouses and historic structures are their specialty, so the call to them was an easy one.

Our own crews and outside contractors handled the exterior thanks to the design from our friends Howell Engineering, Surveying and Environmental.

After a lot of planning and hard work, we are getting close to opening.

Our workforce is getting younger every year, which means more people are starting families while they're on our crews.

It's not a perk added for the brochure. It'll be open early, built for people who start their day before most daycares open their doors, meant to fit how our industry works.

The construction world isn't going to solve the childcare problem by watching one 175-year-old building get a second life. But it was the answer for us, sitting right where the need is.
